We made this satchel in honor of Jacob De Ruiter, our founder, as Ruitertassen reaches its 100th anniversary. We wanted a spacious satchel but compact and comfortable. The 2 compartments make it perfect to be carried on back. The two front pockets are deep and the larger one will easily take an electronic tablet. The front flap over closes with a couple of tuck-locks hidden behind the old fashioned buckles. The uniqueness of the Jacob backpack satchel is its laptop compartment, with this special edition we wanted to offer the most complete and handsome backpack satchel.
This satchel is handcrafted using full grain oiled leather. The use of quality full grain hides, which are no less than 2,5mm thick, enables us to build strong satchels that will hold their shape throughout the years. Working with such thick hides is an art we mastered over the last century. Our threads, fitting, zippers are all especially made to fit and serve our leather. The vintage leather of our Heritage range which will show the signs of wear and usage, was obtain through vegetable tanning, the only ecological tanning process that is 100% chrome-free. Newly vegetable tanned leather can seem a little stiff to begin but the more you wear your satchel the better it will look and feel as the leather will soften and develop a beautiful dark chocolate patina. Note that the oils pressed into the leather might not have completely settled by the time you receive your bag, we therefore recommend that you not wear light colored clothing until the oils have been completely absorbed. To check this, simply rub the leather with a soft tissue and check the tissue for stains.
The Jacob satchback is a little more daring with its contrasting white thread on vintage leather. We believe it brings youth to an old time classic. It is a great commuting satchel if you travel by bike and it will get you noticed.
